The story that has been told for Generations is:
That Mary Emma's parents drown in a
Johnstown flood. Look at the dates it had to been an earlier flood. However all record's was destroyed by the famous Johnstown
Flood. She remembered having a younger sister. She was separated from her sister when they was "taken in". Mary
Emma was "taken in" by Hezekiah and Eliza Pettigrew. However she was never adopted.
She always
thought that she had a sister.
Years later a woman named Hattie and they called her Aunt Hattie
came to visit with Mary Emma.
