James Leroy Bell
WWII Navy veteran retired
from Mercer Forge
Funeral will be Tuesday for James
Leroy Bell, 51 Pine Grove Mobile
Home Court, Coolspring Township.
He died at 1:16 p.m. Thursday (12-7-
00) in White-Cliff Nursing Home,
Hempfield Township, after a oneyear
illness. He was 75.
Mr. Bell was born April 1, 1925, in
North Liberty to David Reed and
Elsie Edna Strawhecker Bell.
He retired in 1986 after 33 years
from Mercer Forge Co., where he
worked in the maintenance department.
He was a member of United
Steelworkers Local 5306.
A Navy veteran, Mr. Bell served
during World War II and was a life
member and member of the board of
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6345,
Mercer.
He was a Protestant.
Mr. Bell was an avid fisherman
and hunter.
His wife, the former Mary Helen
Rihel, whom he married May 3,
1950, died July 14, 1990.
Surviving are: a daughter, Sherry
Bell Houston, Mercer, and a sister,
Florence Heasley, Grove City.
Besides his wife, he was preceded
in death by three brothers, Hartley
Uber and David and Floyd Bell; and
five sisters, Sergie Boyd, Laura
Wimer, Ethel Rodemoyer, Alma Sidley
and Carrie Snyder.
