James Henry Schell
Wilmington schools retiree
had been a coal miner
James Henry Schell, 12 Auction
Road, New Wilmington,
died at 11:30 a.m. Friday morning
(10-10-03) in Allegheny
General Hospital, Pittsburgh.
He was 91.
Mr. Schell was born July 8,
1912, in Springfield Township
to Henry James Schell and Elizabeth
Ellen Knight Schell.
He attended Kansas School
of Number Two Mine in
Springfield Township.
He retired from the custodial
department of Wilmington Area
Schools. Prior to that Mr.
Schell was a coal miner at
Number Two and Number Five
mines, both Springfield Township.
He also worked for United
Engineering and Mesta Steel
companies.
Mr. Schell was a member of
First Alliance Church in New
Castle. He was an avid fisherman.
His wife, the former Ruth
Elinor Mack, whom he married
May 18, 1935, died Jan. 2, 1998.
Surviving are: three daughters,
Ruth J. Beck and her husband
Donald, New Wilmington;
Marilyn J. McCallister and her
husband James, Volant; and
Dorothy E. Heath and her husband
Charles, also New Wilmington;
two sons, James
Richard Schell and his wife
Phoebe, New Castle; and
Charles LeRoy Schell,
Greenville; a brother, Clifford
Filer and his wife Annabelle,
Grove City; and 15 grandchildren,
22 great-grandchildren
and three great-great-grandchildren.
Besides his wife, Mr. Schell
was preceded in death by his
parents, four sisters and two
brothers.

Philip Harrison, pastor, officiating.
Interment: Fair Oaks Cemetery,
New Wilmington.
